Habakkuk 3:17-19
Though the fig tree does not bud, and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and cattle in the stalls, YET I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my saviour. The sovereign Lord is my strength, He makes my feet like the feet of a dear, he enables me to tread on heights.
This is one of the verses that teach me to hold on to faith. When I read this conclusion of the book of Habakkuk I tend to imagine what the prophet must have experienced.
Vs 17 speaks of failed crops and barren animals meaning there was hunger or lack all around the prophet. If there the grapes failed it meant no wine, no merrymaking and this meant there was sadness surrounding the man of God.
Empty pens and stalls meant no future income for the prophet because the sheep and cows were not bringing forth anything.
Many a time we find ourselves in such a situation of hopelessness and we have every reason to give up but hold on there. The prophet says Yet, he was to draw his joy not on his material possession, not from his pastoral wealth, not from his intellectual wealth, not from his experience but from The Lord his Saviour.
He drew his strength from his relationship with his sovereign Lord. Why, because He strengthens His feet in order to remain strong to run as fast as a dear. He makes him walk in a specified way in order for him to get to his heights where he can be able to see clearly.
Brethren hold on to him because until he makes you get to your expected height you have to keep holding on to hope. Things may not be making sense but hold on to hope, you are going through lack hold on to hope, the future looks uncertain hold on to hope.
He who promised is faithful.
